Boeing delivered three F-15K Slam Eagle aircraft to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) at Daegu Air Base on Aug. 20.
“We are pleased to receive the latest three F-15K Slam Eagles, F-15K 51, 52 and 53, from Boeing,” said Lt. Col. Tae Uk Kim, Commander of the 110th Squadron, 11th Fighter Wing, ROKAF.
“The F-15K is one of our most important assets in defense of the peninsula. We are satisfied with the continued on-schedule, quality deliveries of our F-15K Slam Eagles from Boeing,” he added.
The aircraft left the Boeing St. Louis facility on Aug. 16 and made stops in Palmdale, Calif., Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, and Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, before arriving in Korea.
Boeing delivered the first six of 21 F-15Ks it is producing under the Next Fighter II contract in 2010, followed by two in April and two more in May. The remaining eight aircraft will be delivered through April 2012.
“Our long-term cooperative relationship enables Boeing and Korean industry to ensure the ROKAF continues to fly a superior multi-role aircraft in defense of Korea,” said Roger Besancenez, Boeing F-15 Program vice president.
The F-15K is an advanced variant of the combat-proven F-15E. Equipped with the latest technological upgrades, it is extremely capable, survivable and maintainable. The aircraft’s service life is planned through 2040, with technology insertions and upgrades throughout its life cycle.

Trucker hauled F-15 wings to Chico drew excitement
Posted by Jobelle in F-15 Model, F15 News on August 10th, 2011
When Oroville trucker Brian Walker’s was sent him to Virginia a couple of weeks ago to haul back wings of an F-15 fighter jet from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to Chico.
“He didn’t tell me what kind of wings,” said Walker in an interview Friday in Oroville. “He just told me airplane wings. I had no idea it was an F-15 jet.”
Walker drove one of two farm semis carrying the wings, nose, burn cans and a huge green box filled with parts and panels to put the F-15 back together.
Although they were ready to roll July 22, the group had to wait because they couldn’t travel during the weekend through the Virginia city of Hampton, where Langley’s located. The group finally left around the base around 2 p.m. EDT July 25, but they only traveled about 240 miles the first day, partly due to permits.
The trip became known as the Freedom Eagle project and took five days through eight states. They arrived in Chico July 31.Walker said the best part of the trip was seeing the reactions of people along the way. Some motorists whizzed past and slowed down once they realized what he was hauling, or they would ride up beside Walker’s truck and make gestures or point.
The F-15 aircraft also drew people when the truckers stopped. At times, the convoy was able to stop at empty parking lots, but within minutes, the lots would have 15 or more cars “with people taking pictures, talking to us, and wanting their pictures taken with (the plane).”
“It was an experience I will never forget,” Walker said somberly. “It’s an honor that I got to do it.”

Israel to upgrade its F-15A/Bs
Posted by Jobelle in F-15 Model, F15 News on January 20th, 2011
The Israeli Air Force is to enhance an upgrade program to its Boeing F-15 “Baz” strike aircraft to include its oldest A/B-model aircraft. One prototype has already been completed and will serve to accelerate the series upgrade.
“We are confident that after the upgrade is complete, all the Baz fleet will be capable of performing long-range strikes in the next 10 years,” an air force source says.
Israel’s F-15C/Ds have been upgraded within recent years, but the service had not planned to invest in modernizing its earlier A/Bs.
However, a more comprehensive upgrade is now aimed at enabling the older aircraft to use advanced weapon systems, such as bombs equipped with Boeing’s Joint Direct Attack Munition guidance kit. The work will also include improvements to the aircraft’s radar, plus fuselage strengthening.
Officially, the air force has not related the expansion of its F-15 upgrade to delays with Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. But sources say the issue does have an impact on some programmes that are connected to the operational capabilities of its current fighters.

The F-15 Eagle is an all-weather, extremely maneuverable, tactical fighter designed to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat. The Eagle’s air superiority is achieved through a mixture of maneuverability and acceleration, range, weapons and avionics. The F-15 has electronic systems and weaponry to detect, acquire, track and attack enemy aircraft while operating in friendly or enemy-controlled airspace. Its weapons and flight control systems are designed so one person can safely and effectively perform air-to-air combat. It can penetrate enemy defense and outperform and outfight current or projected enemy aircraft.

F-15E capabilities enhanced with Magnetic helmets
Posted by admin in F-15 Model, F15 News on August 16th, 2010
Giving pilots the ability to find a target from a jet cockpit with the naked eye and lock onto it simply by fixing their gaze upon it, is finally realized with the Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System.
The JHMCS integrates a magnetic helmet mounted tracker that determines where the pilot’s head is pointed with a miniature display system that projects information onto the pilot’s visor. Together, the head tracker and visor display act as a targeting device that can aim sensors and weapons wherever the pilot is looking. The 4th Operations Support Squadron aircrew flight equipment technicians, who support the 336th FS have spent the past few months equipping pilots with the Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System. (JHMCS)
“JHMCS is a force multiplier that significantly improves the speed and agility with which F-15E (Strike Eagle) aircrew can find, fix, track, target and engage on the battlefield,” said Lt. Col. Charles Wallace, the 4th Operations Squadron commander. “It’s the next step in advanced sensor integration and man-machine interface in the cockpit.”
The F-15E pilot’s use of the system enhances the aircrew’s ability to engage threats facing ground troops and reduce collateral damage.
“It allows F-15E aircrew to provide unparalleled support to the ground troops in the close-air-support environment,” Captain Swanson said. “The crew will be able to quickly cue sensors and identify friendly locations. The enhanced aircrew coordination and seamless system integration will increase accuracy while shortening the employment chain.”
There is a huge sense of pride in the opportunity for the Rockets to be the first F-15E squadron to bring the JHMCS capability to Afghanistan, and the colonel said he’s confident that they will prove the JHMCS combat value immediately.
“The JHMCS modification has only been possible with the hard work of the aircrew flight equipment technicians, maintainers and avionics specialist Airmen,” Captain Swanson added.

Boeing’s F-15 Silent Eagle Demonstrator 1st Weapon Launch Completed
Posted by admin in F-15 Model, F15 News on July 30th, 2010
Last July 14, a missile was successfully launched from the newly designed Conformal Weapons Bay (CWB) of the Boeing Company’s F-15 Silent Eagle. The Demonstration aircraft F-15E1 departed from Point Mugu Naval Air Weapon Station in California at 5:59 pm Pacific time, launched an inert AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile (AMRAAM) from its left-side CWB, and returned to base at 6:52 pm.
The purpose of the test was to demonstrate the CWB’s flightworthiness and ability to deploy an AMRAAM in flight with no adverse effect on the performance of the aircraft or the CWB itself.
Boeing F-15 Chief Test Pilot Dan Draeger claims “I’ve been flying F-15s for more than 20 years, but this flight was different from all others.” He also said “This first launch of an AMRAAM from the F-15′s internal weapons bay opens a new era for the F-15 and for strike fighter capability in the dominance of the F-15 Eagle,” adding “The F-15, CWB and missile performed exactly as we predicted.” Draeger continued “The Silent Eagle continues the F-15′s role as the most versatile strike fighter aircraft ever built.”
The F-15E1’s first flight with a CWB happened on July 8 from Lambert St. Louis International Airport. The CWB, which carried an AIM-120 Instrumented Test Vehicle (ITV), was successfully opened and closed during that 80-minute flight, validating Boeing’s design approach.
The Silent Eagle is an innovative design solution developed in response to international customer requirements for a cost-effective, high-performance fighter aircraft to defend against future threats.
